MINNEAPOLIS— Minneapolis police say Saturday night’s shooting is the second at a downtown nightclub in the past three weeks.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara says officers working under the department’s Late Night Safety Plan were called to the Tantrum Nightclub at 118 N 4th St. around 1:47 a.m. after reports of a person with a pistol.

While responding, officers heard gunfire coming from the nightclub. Officers ran toward the gunfire and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound that was not believed to be life-threatening.

Police say preliminary information indicates there was a physical altercation inside the club when shots were fired.

As customers ran outside in response to the initial gunfire, officers reportedly heard more shots fired from the parking lot next to Tantrum. There, according to police, officers found a man driving his car recklessly. The police arrested the man and seized a firearm. While apprehending him, officers heard more gunfire.

Officers were also told that a man had been dropped off at Hennepin Healthcare with an apparent gunshot wound. According to police, a second person, identified as a young man, arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. Neither person’s injuries were considered life-threatening.

The police are investigating how the arrested man may have been involved in the shooting.

On November 5, a man was seriously injured during a shooting at Vanquish nightclub in downtown Minneapolis.

O’Hara says the recent shootings show why a greater police presence is needed around downtown, Dinkytown and Uptown bars.
