Watch live: Funeral services held for fallen Chicago police officer Enrique Martinez

CHICAGO (CBS) — Memorial services will be held Monday morning for fallen Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez.

A procession will leave Blake-Lamb Funeral Home around 9:15 a.m. and head east along 103rd Street to Western Avenue. The procession will then proceed north on Western to 77th Street, and then continue west on 77th to the Saint Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel.

After the funeral mass on Monday, the procession will leave the chapel for Beverly Cemetery. Ald. Matthew Oshea (19th) sent a message to neighbors aligning the procession route, honoring Officer Martinez and showing support for his family and fellow officers.

Martinez, 26, was shot during a traffic stop near 80th and Ingleside on Nov. 4. The police said Darion McMillianMartinez, 23, and the driver of the car McMillian was in were shot and killed during a traffic stop in the East Chatham neighborhood on Monday, November 4. McMillian was under electronic monitoring at the time of the shooting for an arrest involving a drug test.

Neither Governor JB Pritzker, nor Mayor Brandon Johnson will attend the funeral service at the request of Martinez’s family. Former Mayor Richard M. Daley was seen during the service at Saint Rita of Cascia Shrine Chapel.

CBS News Chicago will report on the procession and services from outside the chapel as media are not allowed inside the church.

The Chicago Police Department plans to stream the services on their social media platforms.

Private services were held this weekend

The passion Martinez brought to his work was certainly on his mind Many came to honor him on Sunday. A steady stream of mourners came to the Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, at 103rd Street and Cicero Avenue in Oak Lawn. Long after the sun had set and the temperature had dropped, foot traffic did not falter.

At the funeral home, officers pray over his casket while offering their condolences to family members.

“Another young officer lost far too soon, trying to bring justice to this city and its citizens,” said John Catanzara, president of Chicago Fraternal of Police Lodge 7.

Martinez was the second Chicago Police officer killed in the line of duty this year. He was engaged and would have been on the force for three years next month.
