Two adults and three juveniles were arrested Sunday after an attack in northeast Salem, police said in a news release.

A Salem police officer on his way to work saw five male subjects attack a man near Market Street and Hawthorne Avenue NE around 4:30 a.m. Sunday, according to the release. The suspects fled in a vehicle, which was located about 20 minutes later by a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy, police said.

The occupants of the vehicle, found near Lancaster Drive and Center Street NE, were arrested. A firearm was also taken from the car, police said.

The adults, 19 and 20, both from Salem, were charged with riot and have been released. The youths, two ages 16 and one age 17, were taken to the Marion County Juvenile Department. A 16-year-old was charged with riot and illegal possession of a weapon. The others were charged with rioting.
