Democratic officials are engaging in chatter ahead of Trump’s second term

New York Mayor Eric Adams essentially kissed Donald Trump’s ring this weekend at a UFC event that essentially served as a MAGA rally. Rep. Ritchie Torres, D-N.Y., praised Elon Musk and denounced liberals’ justified criticism of the tech billionaire. Colorado’s Democratic governor, Jared Polis, sang the praises of conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s views. about health. Sen. Chris Coons, D-Del., said Musk’s pseudo-governmental agency focused on “government efficiency” could save hundreds of billions of dollars.

While some liberals are preparing for full-scale resistance to Trump’s upcoming presidency, some are Democrats civil servants – like the four above – seem to have opted for schmoozing as a tactic to help extract what they want, be it political harmony, a potential pardon or even mere competence.

All four received a fair amount of criticism online for their submissiveness, although Coons did criticize Musk — and Trump’s Cabinet choices — in his full interview with Fox News. In fact, all of them, except Adams, have been quite critical of Trump and/or his high-ranking associates before. In fact, Polis is part of a coalition of Democratic governors who say they are committed to “protecting democracy” from “increasing threats of autocracy.”
