Man killed after being hit by car in Big Y car park in Northampton

A man was killed after being hit by a car in the Big Y parking lot in Northampton on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the collision occurred Saturday around 3:30 p.m., when a vehicle traveling westbound along the roadway in front of the supermarket struck a 77-year-old man.

According to investigators, the victim was walking along the roadway next to the sidewalk with his back to the vehicle when he was struck.

The driver of the vehicle, a 61-year-old woman from Northampton, remained at the scene. Her driver’s license was immediately suspended as required by state law for fatal motor vehicle crashes under investigation.

The crash remains under investigation by Northampton police and state police detectives affiliated with the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.
