Drinking raw milk containing bird flu isn’t the only way someone can become infected, officials say. A person can become infected if he/she touches the eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands after touching raw milk in bird flu.

Symptoms include redness or discharge from the eyes, coughing, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle or body aches, headache, fatigue, trouble breathing, and fever.

California has reported 29 confirmed human cases of bird flu since October, with 28 cases resulting from direct contact with infected dairy cows. A child from California was confirmed first American child to become infected with bird flu.
