Federal disaster assistance available in Kentucky areas affected by Hurricane Helene

The Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Wednesday that federal disaster assistance is available to Kentucky to supplement recovery efforts in areas affected by the remnants of Hurricane Helene from September 27 to 30.

Federal government funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by Hurricane Helene in Anderson, Bath, Bell, Bourbon, Bracken, Breathitt, Carter, Clark, Clay, Elliott, Estill, Fleming, Greenup, Harlan, Harrison, Jackson, Johnson, Lawrence, Lee, Letcher, Lewis, Magoffin, Menifee, Montgomery, Morgan, Nicholas, Owsley Counties, Powell, Robertson, Rockcastle, Rowan, Washington and Wolfe.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for statewide risk mitigation measures.

Mary Hernandez-Marrero has been appointed federal coordinating officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. Additional guidance may be provided at a later date at the State’s request and based on the results of further assessments.
