A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, December 1, for a Rochester firefighter who died in an ATV accident in the Catskills last week.
Lt. David V. Sidorenko, 55, was driving an all-terrain vehicle south on Dry Brook Road in the town of Hardenburgh, Ulster County, on Saturday, November 16, when the accident occurred. According to New York State Police, the ATV “failed to negotiate a turn,” struck a stand of trees, and Lt. Sidorenko was ejected. He was taken to Margaritaville Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
‘A great man who enriched the fire station, the ice rink or wherever. He will be greatly missed by his brother and sister firefighters,” Rochester Firefighters Local 1071 said in a memorial post for Lt. Sidorenko on X.
The celebration of life begins at 1:00 PM on Sunday, December 1, at the IAFF Local 1071 Union Hall, 65 Hudson Avenue in Rochester, Monroe County. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sidorenko are requested to be made out in checks to the Elvis Reyes Memorial Scholarship. Checks can be mailed to 65 Hudson Avenue, Rochester, NY, 14605.
According to the IAFF Local 1071 website, the Elvis Reyes Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Rochester firefighter Elvis Reyes, who died in the line of duty in September 2022. The scholarship is awarded to children of Local 1071 members and RCSD students.
Lieutenant Sidorenko was born in Northport, Suffolk County, on May 18, 1969. He served for 19 years in multiple homes with the Rochester Fire Department, where “he was known for his dedication, leadership, sense of humor and love of his people. firefighting family,” according to his obituary. In his spare time, he was a teammate on several hockey teams and worked on his boat, the obituary said.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Wendy; his two children, Zachary and Brittany; his mother, Eleanor; his sister, Victoria (Denis) McLaughlin; his mother-in-law, Dora Mullens; four brothers-in-law, Charles (Nancy) Mullens, Jim (Kim) Mullens, Gary (Lisa Rocklein) Mullens and Scott (Kelly Smith) Mullens; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
