Columbus man killed in Near East Side shooting identified by coroner Friday

The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has identified a Columbus man killed in a shooting on the city’s Near East Side last week.

Monroe Brown, 48, of the city’s South Side, was pronounced dead Friday morning, Nov. 29, at the scene of the shooting in the 1700 block of East Main Street, the coroner’s office said.

A second person who police have not publicly identified was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in downtown Columbus in critical condition with gunshot wounds. He was later upgraded to stable condition, according to a Columbus police dispatcher.

Police have not identified any suspects or circumstances leading to the shooting.
