The most expensive home in the country in the history of holiday movies is right here in Illinois.
Cinch Home Services used home value data from Zillow to research average home prices in neighborhoods that have starred in some of the best Christmas movies. The McCallister home, located on Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois, and included in the “Home Alone” franchise, is in a neighborhood where the median home price is $1,565,804.
The McCallister house is a spacious home that often arouses curiosity due to its impressive size. Measuring approximately 4,250 square feet, it is a large Georgian-style house with three floors, a spacious attic, five bedrooms and four bathrooms. Earlier in 2024, the home actually went on the market for $5.25 million – well above the average home in the area.

As for the vacation list, New York had five homes in the top 10. California, Florida, Massachusetts and Minnesota each contributed one home to round out the list. The Griswold home featured in “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation” is also in Illinois and is No. 19 on the list at $300,725.
