An Anchorage woman dies after crash on icy Mat-Su road

Dec. 6 – An Anchorage woman died and two people were seriously injured early Thursday in a head-on collision on a busy road near Wasilla, Alaska State Troopers said.

A man driving a Chevrolet pickup lost control on an icy stretch of Knik-Goose Bay Road around 5:20 a.m. and collided head-on with a Toyota Sequoia near Gleason Lane, troopers said.

Delynn Brouillet, 64, died at the scene, troopers said. She was a passenger in the pickup. Officers said she and the driver were not wearing seat belts.

Both drivers were seriously injured and taken to a hospital, police said. No one else was in either vehicle.

Schools in Anchorage and the Susitna Valley were closed Thursday as freezing rain and rain falling on frozen surfaces created treacherous conditions, especially on side roads and parking lots. Troopers said weather was a significant factor in the collision between Knik and Goose Bay Road, but the investigation was ongoing.
