The timeline shows the movements of the suspect in the murder of the CEO of UnitedHealthcare

Joseph Kenny, chief of police detectives, said the man is believed to have arrived in New York on Nov. 24 on a bus that originated in Atlanta, and police believe he may have left the city on a bus.

The FBI, which is also assisting the NYPD in the investigation, announced a $50,000 reward Friday evening for information leading to an arrest in the case.

The Hilton’s Midtown Hotel is located on Sixth Avenue between West 54th and 55th Streets.

“We are deeply saddened by this morning’s events in the area and our thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy,” a hotel spokesperson said in a statement.

UnitedHealthcare told CBS News that the shooting occurred during the company’s annual investor relations conference. It was scheduled to air live starting at 8 a.m. local time, about an hour and 15 minutes after Thompson was shot.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of our dear friend and colleague Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Brian was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him,” UnitedHealth Group said in a statement. “We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Our thoughts go out to Brian’s family and everyone who was close to him.”

November 24, 2024 – 10 days before the shooting

At 10:11 p.m., the suspect arrived at the Port Authority Bus Terminal on 42nd Street after boarding a Greyhound bus originating from Atlanta, Georgia. He took a taxi to the area of ​​the New York Hilton Midtown and spent about half an hour walking around the area around the hotel until about 11 p.m. The man then checked into the Hi New York City Hostel on Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side. The FBI described the man in the photo on Friday as the “unknown suspect” wanted in Thompson’s murder.

November 29, 2024 – 5 days before the shooting

December 4, 2024 – day of filming

Police say the gunman was seen on surveillance video around 5 a.m. local time near the Frederick Douglass Houses, a NYCHA complex on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. At 5:41 a.m., the man arrived at the New York Hilton Midtown and began walking around the area. . Police say it’s possible he cycled down because it took about 10 minutes. At 6:17 a.m., the suspect was seen at a Starbucks near the hotel, where a law enforcement source says he paid in cash. Sources say surveillance footage captured enough of his face to run through facial recognition, and investigators are conducting forensic tests on a water bottle and a candy wrapper bar that they believe the suspect left behind.

Surveillance footage obtained by The New York Times shows the suspect talking on a cell phone as he walked to the hotel around 6:30 a.m. At 6:39 a.m., police say the gunman arrived outside the hotel on foot. At 6:44 a.m., Thompson walked from his hotel across the street to the Hilton. Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, is shot at 6:46 am. Police say the suspect ran into the alley between West 54th and 5th streets and then rode his bicycle up Sixth Avenue to Central Park. Police say the suspect was last seen riding a bicycle on Center Drive at 6:48 a.m.

Video obtained by CBS News appears to show the suspect leaving the park and onto West 85th Street just before 7 a.m. At 7:04 a.m., the suspect then took a taxi northbound from 86th and Amsterdam to a Port Authority bus station near the George Washington Bridge. At 7:12 a.m., Thompson was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai West Hospital.

December 5, 2024 – 2 days after the shooting

Investigators believe a person in question boarded a bus at the George Washington Bridge bus station bound for Atlanta, a person familiar with the matter told CBS News.
