One person was killed in a collision by police on Saturday afternoon.
According to a Gaston County news release, officers with the Gaston County Police Department responded to a 911 call in the 2000 block of Beau Drive, Stanley, at 12:22 p.m.
After arrival, an officer discharged the firearm and struck a person. Medical aid was provided, but the injured man succumbed to his injuries at the scene, the news release said.
The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave as per department protocol while the incident is investigated. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was requested to conduct the shooting investigation, and the Gaston County Police Department will conduct its own internal investigation.
The press release concluded with:
