(CBS-DETROIT) — A Detroit police officer was injured late Tuesday night after being dragged by a fleeing vehicle.

The incident happened Tuesday around 11:30 p.m. in the area of Greenfield and 7 Mile Roads, when officers patrolling the area observed a moving vehicle backing into the driveway of a home and blocking a sidewalk. Police said the two teenage occupants appeared to be hiding something under a seat.

As officers approached the vehicle, they asked the two teens to step out of the vehicle, but the two did not comply.

Officials say one of the officers tried to open the door, and the driver then backed into another car and then into the police car, attempting to turn around, dragging one of the officers with him. Fearing for their safety, that officer and another officer fired several shots at the fleeing car.
