Following the arrest of the ex-wife of a slain Woodland Hills doctor, prosecutors announced criminal charges Friday against three other people linked to the killing. targeted hit.
On the evening of August 23, Dr. left. Hamid Mirshojae left his medical clinic on Topanga Canyon Boulevard and was walking to his car when he was shot by a masked man, Los Angeles police said. The gunman had hidden around a corner of the clinic and ran towards Mirshojae just before opening fire. He was shot at close range, police said.
Ahang Mirshojae, 53, divorced the doctor in 2010, public records show. She’s been arrested along with four other people on suspicion of plotting to kill her ex-husband, the LAPD said.
On Friday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced criminal charges against three people: Evan Hardman, 41, Sarallah Jawed, 26, and Ashley Rose Sweeting, 40. Hardman, the suspected shooter, and Jawed allegedly attacked the doctor months before the fatal shooting . and killed him for financial gain, prosecutors said.
The two men have both been charged with murder and assault with a deadly weapon, according to prosecutors.
Jawed allegedly facilitated the murder and drove Hardman out of the state a few days later – before Hardman was arrested earlier this week in Texas. He is currently awaiting extradition, prosecutors said.
“It is further alleged that the murder of Dr. Mirshojae was intentional and carried out by Hardman and Jawed for financial gain,” reads the statement from the Public Prosecution Service announcing the charges.
Prosecutors allege Sweeting drove Hardman to and from the scene of the fatal shooting and charged her with accessory after the fact. She pleaded not guilty during a court hearing on Thursday.
Jawed was scheduled to appear in court on Friday, while a preliminary hearing in the case was scheduled for December 24.
Prosecutors have not announced charges against the slain doctor’s ex-wife or a final suspect, Shawn Randolph, 46. However, LAPD said Thursday that the case for charging them has been submitted to the district attorney’s office for consideration.
It remains unclear how all the people arrested in the investigation know each other.
In the days following the death of Dr. Mirshojae, friends and former patients placed candles and flowers just outside the emergency clinic where he worked. describes him as a dedicated doctor.
“He was the sweetest man ever,” said a former patient, Pania Mazaheri. “He would be there for you. He would do anything for you. If you needed anything, he was always happy to help you.’
Meanwhile, LAPD officials pleaded for the public’s help in finding his killer.
When suspicions arose, the doctor’s ex-wife told the Los Angeles Times in an August interview, “It’s all lies.”
“These are civil matters and have nothing to do with his personality or who he is,” Ahang Mirshojae said of a series of lawsuits detailing a long and bitter legal battle. “He is a kind man. He had started a new life and was very happy.”
In records dating back to the former couple’s finalization of their divorce in 2010, records show they were last in court earlier this year, when a judge denied her request for child support for their son in April.
Although prosecutors allege that Hardman and Jawed participated in the murder for financial gain, authorities have not identified a possible motive for Dr.’s ex-wife. Mirshojae and the other two people arrested in connection with his death.
Prosecutors are asking for Hardman and Jawed to be held without bail, while Sweeting is held on $1 million bail.
