An Atlantic City, New Jersey, man was charged with using drones to drop food dye packets into commercial and residential swimming pools in 2023, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Anthony Spina, 31, was indicted by an Atlantic County grand jury on third-degree conspiracy to commit criminal mischief and mischief charges, the prosecutor’s office said.

Between June 1 and September 1, 2023, Spina and another individual allegedly used drones to drop dye packets into commercial and residential swimming pools, turning the water greenish/yellow and causing $2,000 or more in damage.

In August, prosecutors said Spina piloted a drone and dropped dye packets into a swimming pool at a local Atlantic City condominium complex, which cost more than $2,000 to repair.

Prosecutors said they connected the drone to Spina and a co-conspirator after using tracking software. Officials say at least one drone and multiple digital devices were seized during his arrest.
