Above average on Wednesday, but Arctic air is back

Christmas Eve prediction

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A short brush with an area of high pressure will partially clear the skies for the rest of the night. However, waiting in the wings is yet another low-pressure front that will bring with it an Arctic cold front that will first bring some rain and eventually a layer of snow. A weak clipper system will move into the Twin Tiers Wednesday afternoon and throughout the night Friday. This will be followed by high pressure until the weekend.

Before the heavy and dense Arctic air returns to the Twin Tiers and temperatures become more like the Arctic, we will feel slightly above average. Wednesday will be in the mid 40s, with overnight temperatures in the low 30s. Temperatures will become more seasonal before bitterly cold air moves in, with overnight lows in the single digits early next week.

Tonight around 30 degrees, dry and cloudy. Then mid 40s with clouds starting, followed by a late light rain/snow mix.
