Are you ready to be transported to what you might imagine as Santa’s North Pole, full of dazzling decorations and places to warm up with hot chocolate, pick up truffles and see live reindeer? The Route 66 Christmas Chute in Oklahoma is that place.
If you live in the Tulsa area or are just passing through this season, you can’t miss this holiday spectacle of thousands of lights.
It takes local volunteers and entrepreneurs more than a month to decorate 250 meters of walkable canopies with Christmas lights and ornaments.
How to get there and when to go
The Christmas Chute is located along historic Route 66 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Sapulpa is about 20 minutes from downtown Tulsa or an hour and a half from Oklahoma City.
-
Decorations will remain up until December 29th.
-
The Christmas Chute is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m
Magical moments to experience
When we first visited, the covered walkways had beautiful themes, such as ‘Candyland’, ‘Rudolph’ and ‘Gingerbread Lane’, and festive music was played.
You can enjoy planned events such as meeting Santa Claus or seeing live reindeer as you tour the lights and walk along the historic highway. You can also reserve an igloo and roast s’mores. There is even a treasure hunt for the children.
This isn’t just a magical Christmas wonderland for kids. My husband and I stopped at a local coffee shop and warmed up with hot chocolate, and then we got truffles next door. We were giddy with holiday feelings and were impressed by the atmosphere. It’s the perfect date night activity and I highly recommend visiting.
