Where Warriors’ Biggest Loss to Grizzlies in Franchise History originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Simply put, the Warriors were smoked like barbecue ribs by the Memphis Grizzlies on Thursday night.
In fact, Golden State’s defeat at FedExForum (144-93) ranks as one of the worst in the franchise’s eight-decade history.
The 51-point margin equals the Warriors’ fourth-worst loss ever, both on the road and overall. And if Brandin Podziemski hadn’t made a layup in the final second at the final buzzer, it would have been their second-worst loss.
Additionally, Thursday’s blowout marked the largest margin of defeat of the 2024-2025 NBA season — by any team.
However, if there is an upside for Golden State, this wasn’t even the worst loss of 2024; the Boston Celtics’ 52-point win in March retains that honor.
Aside from the loss to the Toronto Raptors in 2021 – in which neither Steph Curry nor Draymond Green played – all the other three losses on the list came to the eventual NBA champions that season. Maybe that bodes well for the Grizzlies this year?
Getting back to Curry and Green, this was the first time the duo had ever been held without a field goal in a game in which both players played.
In another career first, Curry had never managed a single field goal in a game he had played at least 12 minutes until Thursday night. The Warriors star guard finished with just two points (both from the free throw line) on 0-for-7 shooting from the field.
So yeah, not a great night for Golden State.
