Linesville man pleads guilty in road rage shooting case

A Linesville man faces state prison time after admitting to shooting a man in connection with a road rage incident in the area in February.

Jason R. Waring pleaded guilty Thursday before Crawford County Court Judge John Spataro to a first-degree felony count of aggravated assault with extreme indifference to human life.

Waring, 52, was scheduled to stand trial next month in Crawford County Court on charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police have accused Waring of shooting a man with a .22-caliber handgun outside an apartment building in the 200 block of South Pymatuning Street on the night of Feb. 24, following an alleged road rage incident.

The man who was shot survived and contacted police. In a subsequent interview with police, Waring admitted to the shooting.

By agreeing to plead guilty to aggravated assault, the Crawford County District Attorney’s Office will not prosecute him for attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As part of the plea agreement, Waring will be sentenced to a minimum state prison term ranging from three and a half years to four and a half years and a maximum of fifteen years. The judge determines the minimum term.

Waring remains free on $75,000 bond pending his Feb. 7 sentencing for Spataro.
