An anonymous threat at San Francisco State University prompted officials to close the campus Thursday afternoon to conduct a search, but authorities said no credible threat was found.

Anyone currently on campus was advised to “shelter immediately” or move to a safe location, stay away from windows and doors and await further instructions. Those not on campus were told to stay away as all activities, finals and classes had been canceled for the day.
School officials said all finals canceled because of the incident would be rescheduled.
Around 2:45 p.m., authorities asked people on campus to continue to shelter in place “out of abundance” and said an additional update would be provided at about 4 p.m.
That update confirmed that the shelter-in-place order had been lifted for the school’s main campus.
“University police and local agencies have completed the search and no credible threat to the campus community was discovered,” according to a message on the school’s Office of Emergency Services website.
Although all classes and activities remained canceled for the remainder of Thursday, all activities, including finals, were scheduled to resume on Friday.
The update stated that all students and employees whose duties permitted this could leave campus. Employees could also return to campus to retrieve any items if necessary.
Residential students who were off campus could return to the residence halls and would receive a separate notice about campus support activities for them, officials said.
Students affected by canceled or disrupted final exams were asked to speak with teachers to make alternative arrangements.
“Faculty members are encouraged to work closely with students to ensure appropriate solutions are provided,” the message from the SFSU Office of Emergency Services said.
