Will Maryland have a white Christmas this year?
Probably not. But a chance of snow is forecast for the morning of Christmas Eve.

The weather is expected to be sunny and cold in the Baltimore area during the week of Christmas and the start of Hanukkah, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures dropped to sub-zero temperatures near BWI Marshall Airport over the weekend – a high of 31 degrees was expected to hit on Sunday, before a forecast sweltering cold low of 16 degrees overnight. Winter shelters have been activated in Baltimore City and County for at least part of this week.
Sunday would otherwise be sunny with a calm wind. Temperatures were forecast to rise slightly above freezing again on Monday, with a high near 35 degrees and sunny skies.
The weather service predicted a small chance of snow from 1 a.m. on Tuesday, when temperatures drop again to a minimum of 30 degrees. As the morning progresses, the forecast increases to a 30% chance of snow until about 1pm Tuesday.
Otherwise, Tuesday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high near 46 and a low of 33 overnight.
Wednesday, Christmas Day, is forecast to be partly sunny with a high of around 44 degrees. Some cloud cover is expected to develop overnight in addition to another low of 33 degrees.
Thursday is expected to be about the same, with partly sunny skies and a high near 45, as well as an overnight low of 34.
Mostly cloudy skies are expected Friday, with a high near 48 degrees. There is a 40% chance of rain for the Baltimore region Friday evening through Saturday, when highs are expected to reach 50 degrees.
Baltimore City has activated its winter shelters through the morning of Christmas Eve. A number of warming shelters will be open during the day, and Baltimore residents seeking overnight shelter can contact the city’s hotline at 443-984-9540 to get connected.
Baltimore County’s freezing weather shelters – the Eastern Family Resource Center at 9150 Franklin Square Drive in Rosedale and the Community Health Center at 1811 Woodlawn Drive in Woodlawn – are also activated this season. Homeless residents can call 410-887-8463 to speak to a screener about a temporary shelter bed.
