Leisure travelers, these are the best and worst times to hit the road in 2024, AAA says

Holiday travelers are expected to break records this year, and according to AAA, a large majority will be driving.

An estimated 119.3 million people will travel 50 miles or more between Saturday, Dec. 21 and New Year’s Day, narrowly beating 2019’s record, AAA says.

So when are the best and worst times to be on the road? (See our schedule below.)

Traffic will be lighter earlier in the day and heavier in the afternoon and early evening, AAA predicts.

Traffic congestion on I-95 south between Philadelphia and Washington DC is expected to be at its worst on Sunday, December 22 at 4:45 p.m. Driving times will be approximately 40% longer than normal, according to AAA.

Make sure you get an early start after Christmas. The worst traffic is expected on Thursday, December 26 between 12 noon and 5 p.m
