A Camden teen convicted in South Philly carjackings faces more than seven years in prison

A Camden teen faces at least seven years in prison after admitting guilt to two carjackings.

Zamer Williams, 19, was accused of stealing cars from two motorists in South Philadelphia, including a woman who was briefly dragged away as the suspect fled in her car, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

The carjackings happened two days apart in November 2023 on a commercial stretch of Columbus Boulevard. That area is just across the Delaware River from South Jersey.

On the night of November 11, Williams and an accomplice allegedly took a car at gunpoint from an Uber driver who was picking up a passenger at an Ikea store, the federal prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

The second victim was a woman who left her car outside a Wawa about a mile from the first crime scene. She left the store to confront Williams and then held on to the driver’s side as he drove away.

“After holding on for approximately 10 to 10 feet, the victim let go and the defendant fled in her car,” the statement said.

Williams pleaded guilty on December 17 to two counts of carjacking and one count of using a firearm during a violent crime.

Williams faces a mandatory minimum sentence of seven years in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said.

U.S. District Judge Mitchell Goldberg scheduled sentencing for March 25 in Philadelphia federal court.
