Police are looking for suspects accused of stealing ATMs from the Meriden convenience store

Police are investigating after a group of individuals used a vehicle to snatch an ATM from a convenience store in Meriden on Sunday, stealing the cash box from the machine before attempting to do the same in another city.

According to the Meriden Police Department, officers responded to the Valero gas station at 369 Cook Ave. at 1:09 a.m. on the report that several suspects were trying to steal the ATM from the building. When officers arrived, the individuals had already fled the area.

Police said video surveillance showed the thieves arrived in a 2008 Honda CR-V EX with a Connecticut license plate 4615-CP. The vehicle was occupied by four people who police say smashed the business’ windshield and wrapped a chain around the ATM, which was attached to the Honda.

The ATM fell apart when it was removed from the store. Police say the thieves took the cash box and fled the area.

Officers sent a “be on the lookout” alert to neighboring police departments before it was believed the same group had attempted a similar theft in Branford.
