If you live in Georgia and are hoping for a white Christmas, you’ll have to travel far to see one.
Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says the closest place you can see snow is the mountains of West Virginia, more than 350 miles away.

In fact, it is very rare for Atlanta to see snow on Christmas Day. Nitz says this has only happened twice since the 1800s since record keeping began.
Based on measurements, approximately 0.3 inches of snow fell on Christmas Day in 1882. But the second time was 14 years ago.
On December 25, 2010, approximately 1 inch of snow was measured at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Atlanta. You may remember more snow on the ground further north.
Nitz says between 2 and 4 inches of snow fell in metro Atlanta, while people in the North Georgia mountains saw anywhere from 4 to 12 inches of snow fall.
But for 2024, you can expect Christmas Day to be sunny with above-average temperatures.
