A body was found in the wheel well of a United Airlines plane after it landed on Maui.
The discovery was made Tuesday after the Boeing 787-10 arrived at Kahului Airport, United said in a statement. The Christmas Eve flight departed from an airport in Chicago.
The body was located in the wheel well of one of the main landing gear. United said the area where the body was found can only be accessed from outside the plane.
It is not clear how and when the person gained access to the control pit, the airline said, noting that it is cooperating with law enforcement. Further details were not immediately available.
Maui police did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday. Authorities told Hawaii News Now that the department was investigating.
