Alworth Scholarships available until January 15th

Jan. 10—BELTRAMI COUNTY — Minnesota high school students are encouraged to apply for a $24,000 scholarship from the Marshall H. and Nellie Alworth Memorial Fund.

The scholarship is open to students with an ACT score of 24 or higher and a minimum GPA of 3.5 who plan to pursue a four-year degree in mathematics or science.

Applicants must reside in one of the following counties in northern Minnesota: Aitkin, Beltrami, Carlton, Cass, Cook, Crow Wing, Lake, Itasca, Koochiching and St. Louis.

“Last year, the Alworth Memorial Fund awarded 95 scholarships of $24,000 each, and we plan to help a similar number of students this year,” Patty Salo Downs, Alworth executive director, said in a news release. “But to be considered, you have to apply!”

The application process takes approximately two hours, the release said.

Since 1949, $58 million in Alworth Scholarships have been awarded to dedicated high school students who plan to enroll in four-year institutions to pursue careers in the fields of science, mathematics, engineering and medicine.
