LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – More than 40 personnel from Las Vegas Valley fire departments have been deployed to the Los Angeles area to help battle wildfires that have burned thousands of acres and destroyed more than 1,000 buildings.
The two Clark County strike teams deployed were assigned to separate wildfires.
The first, a 24-person strike team deployed on Wednesday, January 8, was assigned to the Pacific Palisades fire. Their work consists of putting out fires in local neighborhoods. Around 2 a.m. Friday, they battled a two-story house fire with resources from the LA County Fire Department.
The team consisted of five engines, two battalion chiefs, a mechanic and a logistics team member.
According to the latest report from Clark County, the Palisades fire is more than 20,000 acres in size and 6% contained as of Friday evening. More than 3,000 firefighters are working on the fire.

The second strike team consisted of 21 people and left the Las Vegas Valley on Thursday, January 9. The team was assigned to the Easton Fire near Pasadena. On Friday morning, the team was assigned to Division Zulu with an Arizona Task Force with the goal of extinguishing local fires in the area where they work.
According to Clark County, the fire has burned 14,000 acres and is 0% contained as of Friday evening. The team consisted of our engines, a water tender, two battalion chiefs, a mechanic and a logistics team member. 1,500 people were involved in this fire on Friday evening.
Both teams operate 24 hours a day, starting at 7am, during the briefings where they receive their orders for the day.
A total of 46 personnel from Las Vegas Valley fire departments, including the Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire & Rescue and the Henderson Fire Department, are providing support and resources.
The teams are expected to be deployed for one to two weeks.
