Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Pennsylvania fell last week compared to the week before, the U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday.
New unemployment claims, a gauge for layoffs, fell to 20,379 in the week ending Jan. 3, down from 21,199 the week before, the Labor Department said.
U.S. unemployment claims fell to 201,000 last week, a decline of 10,000 claims from 211,000 the week before on a seasonally adjusted basis.
Georgia had the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 170.2%. New Hampshire, meanwhile, saw the largest percentage decline in new claims, with claims down 57.3%.
