DOVER, NH – On those days when you’re thinking about skipping the gym, spare a thought for 95-year-old David Scott.
Scott is a World War II veteran who regularly works out at Planet Fitness in Dover, New Hampshire.
“I started at age six,” Scott said.
How skiing changed David Scott’s life
Scott said he has always been into physical fitness, having played football in high school and wrestled in college.
The World War II and Korean War veteran continued his training journey while serving in the military. He then used his GI Bill to attend Harvard University, where he participated in a sport that would change his life.
“I skied at Harvard. Then I thought, ‘I don’t want to be an office worker, I want to do something that has to do with skiing,'” Scott said.
Scott went to Italy to ski in the Alps and there he met his wife Lydia.
“When I saw her, I thought, ‘This is it.’ For me it was love at first sight,” said Scott.
“A real source of inspiration”
Their relationship lasted 62 years, produced three children and a book, “My 20 Years in Italy: How Opera and Skiing Changed My Life.”
Despite all this, Scott has still found ways to get to the gym. He goes to Planet Fitness in Dover several times a week and embodies a loving spirit for all to witness.
“He is a true inspiration and it is great to get to know him personally, see his story and learn more about his background. It is an absolute pleasure to have him,” said gym manager Monique Jalbert.
