After a record warm Halloween in the 80s that felt more like August than October, we’re starting November on the warm side with highs in the mid and upper 70s in the Philadelphia region.
Perhaps the bigger story on Friday is whether we get measurable rain at the official reporting station at PHL.
What is measurable rain? Minimum 0.01 inches.
Earlier this week, rain chances looked promising, but now they have dwindled as this cold front follows the pattern of the cold fronts that roared and dried through the area.
If we break the record of 33 days without rain, it will be with sprinkles on Friday morning. If we don’t get rain, the next chance is Wednesday, which would be the 39th day without rain.
Looking ahead to the weekend you will need the jackets, sweatshirts or hoodies again. Morning lows will be in the upper 30s to low 40s and daytime highs will struggle to reach the lower 60s. In any case, there is plenty of sun on both days. It will also be windy, which could lead to more red flag warnings.
Don’t forget to turn your clock back an hour before going to bed on Saturday evening. Daylight saving time ends Sunday at 2 a.m. That means an extra hour of sleep. It also means an earlier sunrise and earlier sunset. Sunday sunset is before 5:00 PM. This is also the time to replace the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
The weather on Sunday looks perfect for the Eagles as they host Jacksonville at the Linc. Kickoff will be sunny and 62 degrees.
Temperatures will rise again on Monday, reaching the upper 70s with sunshine on Election Day. It will remain mild on Wednesday, because a new front is approaching with a chance of showers.
The severe drought has spread across the region and with only a chance of isolated showers over the next seven days, temperatures are likely to reach extreme levels for parts of the area next week.
