Mandan is home to the incredible Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, packed with history and natural beauty. Every weekend in October, the park transforms into a legendary Halloween attraction with four unique haunted houses. Imagine how creepy reconstructed historic military buildings can be. The event has a less intense evening called ‘Spookless Night’ so younger children can enjoy it. No wonder Haunted Fort has become so popular for families.

Miles with McConkey

In addition to the extraordinary community events, Mandan has beautiful parks along the Missouri River. There are plenty of boutiques, art galleries, fine dining options and local craft breweries. Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park and the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum are excellent choices if you enjoy history.

You can reach the underrated Theodore Roosevelt National Park by driving two hours west. For those who enjoy scenic drives with attractions along the way, head to the Enchanted Highway.

With so many attractions in outdoor recreation, history and art, Mandan is an excellent place for families. The festivals and events are the icing on the cake.
