Bees like to build their hives in all kinds of places.
Trees and shrubs are popular places. And this also applies to various places around a house, such as under the roof. Every now and then, bees can get a little more creative. At least this is what we’re hearing from the city of Fort Myers Beach on Tuesday (May 28).
Here’s what appeared in a press release in the News-Press inbox today:
The City of Fort Myers Beach has been notified of a beehive on the Matanzas Pass Bridge. We have contacted the Florida Department of Transportation regarding this matter. Be careful when walking or cycling across the bridge.

Yes. There are bees buzzing on the bridge to Fort Myers Beach. The message from Fort Myers Beach officials?
Bee-careful.
“We contacted FDOT (Florida Department of Transportation) because they own the bridge,” said Nicole Berzin, spokesperson for the City of Fort Myers Beach. “We also contacted Councell Farms, a bee removal company used by Lee County and FDOT.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no timeline for removing the bees. It is also unknown which type of bee built the large beehive.
“We hope that the problem will be resolved as soon as possible,” Brezin said. “Until the issue is resolved, we urge pedestrians and cyclists to use caution when crossing the bridge.”
