A Los Angeles County firefighter sent a mayday after one of his colleagues fell through a roof while trying to extinguish a house fire.

The fire started at a home in the 8300 block of Boer Avenue in Whittier around 9:15 p.m. When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke and fire coming from the house. One person was in the house when the fire started, but was able to get out on their own.

Firefighters went to the roof to ventilate the building, but one of them fell through and landed in the house.

Emergency workers took the firefighter to hospital, where he was quickly released with minor injuries.

A second firefighter was also sent to hospital with minor injuries, but it is unclear how they were injured.

This is a development story. Check back for more details.
