A man who claims he saw Karen Read’s SUV the night John O’Keefe died is taking the stand

A man who claims to have seen Karen Read’s SUV outside the home where John O’Keefe died will take the stand Friday morning in the ongoing murder case.

Matthew McCabe said he and his wife Jen were out with John O’Keefe and Karen Read the last night O’Keefe was alive.

McCabe took the stand Thursday afternoon, saying he met O’Keefe when he became the caregiver for his niece and nephew.

He said O’Keefe had asked for directions to the Alberts’ home between leaving the Waterfall bar and reaching the Alberts.

McCabe testified that he saw Karen Read’s SUV outside the Alberts’ window at least three times, but saw no one outside the SUV and could not see who was inside.

He said when he left the Alberts he didn’t see anything in the garden.

Karen Read is accused of killing her boyfriend, a Boston police officer, by running him over with her car.

But the defense has long argued that O’Keefe was defeated by others.

McCabe’s testimony on Thursday came after Colin Albert spent several hours on the witness stand, analyzing photos and videos.

The defense suggested that Colin Albert and others left John O’Keefe with two black eyes and fatal head injuries.

In a video shown to judges, Albert can be heard saying, “I’ll beat anything you can.” I promise I will fuck you all. Pull up, bitch.”

Albert admits that he used the videos to mock a rival youth hockey team when he was in high school.

Albert told defense attorney Alan Jackson that they were sent as a threat.

“It was a threat made against a number of other individuals where you had some sort of issue or problem,” Jackson said.

“Right,” said Albert.

Jackson also showed a photo taken less than a month after John O’Keefe’s death at Fenway Johnnies.

Albert’s knuckles on his right hand were injured. He said he fell in an icy driveway during a house party.

Another photo was shown by the prosecutor on Wednesday with no visible injuries to his knuckles, two weeks after O’Keefe’s death.

Albert was also asked about the testimony he gave before a federal grand jury in July 2023 when he went to court with injuries to his hand. He says he was injured when a heavy bag hit him.

After Thursday’s court hearing, attorney Yannetti commented on Albert’s testimony, saying, “I think just about anyone can hear that testimony and realize that it’s just not credible.”

If Matthew McCabe takes the stand again Friday morning, things will likely get better when he found out John O’Keefe was dead and woke up to screaming.
