MINNEAPOLIS— Investigators are investigating a fire at a building in south Minneapolis late Monday night.
The Minneapolis Fire Department says crews responded to reports of a fire in the basement of a building at 5 East 38th Street South around 7:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, crews observed smoke coming from the first floor of the two-story building. The first floor of the building would be commercial space, while the second floor would be residential.
Lines were laid to the basement of the building. Crews also discovered that the fire was spreading through the empty space in the walls and between the ceiling of the first and second floors. According to the fire brigade, the walls and ceiling had to be opened to extinguish the fire.
Crews did not find any fire spread into the adjacent building or into the roofline.
The Minneapolis Fire Department says the building appeared to be vacant and was being renovated.
No injuries have been reported.
