A two-alarm bushfire in Gloucester is leading firefighters to urge the public to avoid the area

On Sunday, Gloucester Fire Brigade was actively battling a two-alarm bushfire and is urging the public to distance themselves from the area and avoid outdoor fires starting.

Firefighters responded to numerous reports of smoke in the Quarry Street area at 11:23 a.m. The fire brigade used drones to investigate the area and confirm the smoke.

About 3 acres of forest were on fire, and as crews began battling it, they increased the fire to a second alarm response as mutual aid was needed to battle the flames.

The mutual aid consisted of the Rockport, Essex, Manchester and Beverly fire departments. In addition to the additional fire crews, off-duty Gloucester firefighters were recalled to battle the flames, as well as the state Department of Conservation & Recreation Bureau of Forest Fire Control and Forestry, Massachusetts Environmental Police and Rehab 5 were also there for support.
