A water warning has been issued for five beaches in LA County due to high bacteria levels

Officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health have issued a warning for five popular beaches due to excessive bacteria levels, which could cause complications for those who want to celebrate Memorial Day at the beach.

Health officials are warning the public not to swim, surf or play in ocean waters at:

  • Santa Monica Canyon Creek at Will Rogers State Beach (100 yards along shore from the creek near Will Rogers Tower 18),
  • the entire swimming area of ​​Mother Beach in Marina Del Rey,
  • Malibu Lagoon at Surfrider Beach (100 yards along the shore from the public restrooms),
  • Santa Monica Pier (100 yards along the shore from the pier), and
  • the entire swimming area of ​​Inner Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro.

All five locations reported bacteria levels exceeded health standards in the most recent testing, according to a statement from the department.

That was two more warnings released earlier this week were lifted at the Temescal Canyon storm drain at Will Rogers State Beach and the Pico-Kenter storm drain at Santa Monica State Beach near South Tower 20.
