Accident claims lives of 3 Buena Vista students

Nov. 21 – Buena Vista ISD schools will be closed for the rest of the week after a head-on collision that killed three students on Nov. 20.

The driver of the other vehicle died after being transported to MCH Odessa.

The crash occurred on Nov. 20 at approximately 7:20 p.m. on FM 1053, about a mile and a half south of the Texas Highway 329 intersection in Crane County.

Eighteen-year-old twin boys Jaden and Jackie Jurado and their sister, 16-year-old Nautica Carrasco, were involved in the head-on crash. According to information from Ector County Sheriff Mike Griffis, all three children died on impact.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating.

“Our crash team is still investigating that crash to determine the circumstances that led to the crash. Once our crash team makes some determinations as to what happened, a statement will be released,” said DPS spokesperson Sgt . said Steven Blanco.

“The circumstances leading to this are still under investigation. As soon as we have that information, we will pass it on to the media,” Blanco added.

The three children are the children of Patrol Lt. Heather Perkins, who worked for the Ector County Sheriff’s Office for 23 years and rose through the ranks after starting in jail.

Her father, Jackie, retired from ECSO in 2015 after 37 years of service.

Griffis said they were all good kids.

According to social media posts, all the children were athletic.

Counselors were made available at Buena Vista ISD.
