Reddit users are complaining about problems connecting to the online forum, with thousands of people telling DownDetector on Wednesday that the service is down.
In a service post, Reddit said it is aware of “degraded service” for users of its website and app, adding that it is investigating the issue.
Reddit users started reporting issues accessing the site around 3:00 PM ET on Wednesday, with the number of reports rising to nearly 50,000 soon after. As of 5:30 p.m., some users were still having trouble connecting to Reddit, with the website displaying the message: “Our CDN [content delivery network] could not reach our servers.”
Reddit did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Reddit, which went public in March, reported its first profit as a publicly traded company last month. The social media service also reported that the number of daily users rose 47% to 97.2 million compared to the same time last year.
Is Bluesky down too?
DownDetector also reported that Bluesky, a service similar to X, experienced problems on Wednesday.
According to DownDetector, more than 2,000 users reported issues with Bluesky’s server connection and website around 3:45 PM ET.
In a post Wednesday, Bluesky said it had “experienced some technical issues today” but said service had returned. The service has registered more than 20 million users, with a million new users joining every day in recent days, Bluesky said Tuesday. Many of those new users are dissatisfied X-users.
Backed by former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Bluesky opened to the public in February after starting as an invitation-only space. That invite-only period gave the site time to build out moderation tools and other features.
The platform is similar to Musk’s X, with a “discover” feed and a chronological feed for accounts that users follow. Users can send direct messages and pin messages, as well as find “starter packs” with curated lists of people and custom feeds to follow.
