BOSTON – In search of the perfect winter activity in Boston? A new report shows that the city has one of the best places to ice skate in all of North America.
The Boston Common Frog Pond ranked 14th on Yelp’s ranking of the best ice skating rinks in the United States and Canada. New York City is home to the No. 1 and No. 2 picks on the list, Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center.
Yelp reviewers say it’s an ideal date night destination, even in the cold.
“You must visit this place when the sun sets, especially during the holidays,” wrote one tourist.
Skating on Boston Common
The ice rink was opened in 1996 on the Kikkervijver. It is a family-friendly destination, but also hosts professional figure skating shows.

Skating on Boston Frog Pond
For the 2024-2025 skating season, the Frog Pond is open seven days a week at 10 a.m. It closes at 3.45pm on Mondays, but is open until 9pm on other evenings and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays.
Access to the ice rink is based on height. Skaters under 58 inches are free, anyone taller must pay $10.
If you don’t have skates, you can rent them. Adult couples cost $15, while children cost $10.
