Former congressman and Air National Guard pilot Adam Kinzinger says there’s a reason why so many drone photos reported along the East Coast are blurry.
“People with long telephoto lenses out there – believe me, they’re all there now – and they’re zooming in on this thing that they can see with their long telephoto lens, which is a plane, so they don’t take a picture, they don’t post it” , he said on a video posted on social media on Sunday evening. “Instead, the person zooms in on their iPhone, which has no resolution, and sees this thing that looks like a sphere, because there is no resolution on this phone. [They] post it on the internet and say: look, this is a drone.
A series of reported drone sightings over New Jersey last week prompted Garden State Rep. Jeff Van Drew to suggest that an Iranian parent store parked off the East Coast might be sending foreign planes over U.S. airspace. He later walked back that claim in a statement calling for an explanation from the federal government. Late last month, drone activity prevented a medical helicopter from picking up a crash victim in Somerset County, according to NJ.com.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said at a news conference last week that “there is no evidence of any foreign involvement of coastal vessels” and there is no cause for concern.
“This is all mass hysteria,” Kinzinger said. “Are there any drones that have not been identified? I’m not saying there aren’t any. That could be possible. Let’s see what happens.”
