TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – As is typical for late August, we’re starting the day sunny and warming up quickly. Highs will reach the mid 90s in most places, which is slightly above average.
The storms will begin in the mid-afternoon and move toward the Gulf of Mexico later in the day, with most of the rain over before sunset.
If you go out to dinner or to a high school football game, the rain will stop quickly, but it will still be hot and humid.
Drier air at higher levels will limit the number of storms that form Saturday afternoon. Rain chances will drop to 30% and highs will be in the low to mid 90s.
There will be scattered showers again on Sunday afternoon and early evening, and there will also be a few afternoon thunderstorms on Labor Day.
Next week the chance of afternoon and evening storms is even greater.
Two tropical waves may develop as they move west through the Atlantic Ocean.
