Aiyuk predicts which team he’ll play for next season amid 49ers contract talks

Brandon Aiyuk and the 49ers appear to be far apart in contract negotiations.

However, the All-Pro wide receiver shared a huge clue about what his future in San Francisco, and the NFL for that matter, could look like.

Aiyuk surprisingly revealed which uniform he expects to wear during the 2024 NFL season during an appearance Friday on Fanatics’ “The Pivot” podcast with co-hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder and Fred Taylor.

“If I had to guess, probably a Niner uniform,” Aiyuk said. “Probably a Niner uniform. If not a Niners uniform, probably a Washington Commanders uniform. If not a Washington Commanders uniform, probably a [Pittsburgh] Steelers uniform.”

It’s unclear whether Aiyuk wants his gamble to come to fruition, but it’s somewhat promising for San Francisco and the Faithful that the fifth-year veteran said “Niners” before any other team.

But the Commanders and the Steelers? 49ers fans aren’t going to like that Aiyuk named these two teams.

Aiyuk’s idea for the Steelers appears to be out of left field, as Pittsburgh potentially has an offense that would entice the 26-year-old.

Conversely, it is common knowledge that Aiyuk and Commanders’ rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels became good friends after the two were teammates at Arizona State in 2019. Aiyuk’s mention of Washington seems to correlate with authentic interest between the two sides.

On June 17, Aiyuk posted a video to TikTok, telling Daniels, “[The 49ers] don’t want me back…i swear.”

The video on Aiyuk’s page was also captioned: “I’m laughing but I’m crying [for real].”

On Monday, Aiyuk made a comment on Instragam in response to a pieced together report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter claiming San Francisco and Washington were in discussions about a deal ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

“But I thought the Niners never tried to trade me?” Aiyuk wrote.

At first glance, the Commanders appear to pose a bigger threat to lure Aiyuk away from the 49ers than any other team.

Still, Aiyuk suspects he’ll end up in the same red and gold thread he’s only known this fall.
