Dec. 19 – Alabama poet Ashley Jones will be the keynote speaker at Decatur and Morgan County’s inaugural Celebrating Women of Character event on March 8 in Ingalls Harbor.
The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., will include a CPR and safety workshop, a women’s safety and defense workshop, a yoga and meditation workshop and a historical lecture on local women.
The event, which spotlights women-owned businesses and organizations, coincides with International Women’s Day. Admission to the day event is free.
The festivities continue in the evening from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Turner Surles Community Resource Center. Tickets are $20 and benefit SEVEDA, Supporting Each Victim Encountering Domestic Abuse.
Decatur Parks & Recreation, Decatur Morgan County Tourism and Decatur Morgan Chamber of Commerce are teaming up to host the event.
