Police are searching for a driver accused of fleeing after fatally hitting a man crossing a street in the East Central corridor last summer.
Albuquerque Metro Crime Stoppers said in a news release Wednesday that detectives are trying to locate 31-year-old Jose Jurado-Corral.
Jurado-Corral has been on the run since August, when he was charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal crash in the July 3 collision that killed Duane Yazzie.
Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to Jurado-Corral’s arrest.
Police responded to the crash at Central en Española NE around 5 p.m., where Yazzie was pronounced dead at the scene, according to an arrest warrant affidavit filed in Metropolitan Court. Witnesses told police that a blue GMC truck was driving recklessly and sideswiped another vehicle before hitting Yazzie.
Detectives used traffic cameras to locate the suspect’s truck and followed the path from a restaurant along Central to the crash site, although the actual crash was not captured on video, the affidavit said. The license plate came back to Jurado-Corral as the truck’s owner, and detectives identified him as the driver of the restaurant’s truck.
