The California Highway Patrol office in Hayward confirmed Thursday the recent DUI arrest of a woman who led officers on a high-speed chase with her four-year-old child in the vehicle before she was caught and tested at nearly twice the legal limit.
CHP Hayward social media accounts posted about the incident Thursday morning. Although the reports did not specify when the incident occurred, it was noted that officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at 90 miles per hour when the female driver decided to flee.
After the high-speed chase, the female driver left the highway before stopping and leaving her car behind. She then tried to flee on foot with her four-year-old child, who was in the car behind her.
When she was caught by officers, they discovered that her blood alcohol level was almost twice the legal alcohol limit of 0.08% and that the arrest was not her first offense. Officers also arrested a male passenger who was in the car and was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm.
“Officers were shocked to discover that a child was in the vehicle during these reckless acts,” the release said. “They acted quickly and were able to safely apprehend both suspects, leaving the child unharmed.”
