An ATV rollover on Memorial Day kills an elderly woman in Northern California, CHP says

A 70-year-old woman was killed on Memorial Day after her SUV rolled over on a private property in Nevada County, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers were called at 8:50 a.m. to a home on Springfield Drive, east of Dog Bar Road, for a report of an ATV accident. Susan McFarlane, 70, was driving a 2003 Yamaha Kodiak when she performed an “unsafe turning motion,” said Officer Jason Bice, a spokesman for the CHP’s Grass Valley office.

McFarlane was thrown from the ATV when it rolled over, suffering head and neck injuries while not wearing a helmet. She died at the scene, Bice said.

The crash is under investigation. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected of being involved in the crash.
