One person killed in early morning shooting in Chinatown International District

Seattle detectives are investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the Chinatown International District neighborhood.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., 911 received a report of a shooting in the 500 block of 8th Avenue South.

Police arrived on scene and found a 35-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds.

Officers provided assistance until the Seattle Fire Department arrived. However, despite their efforts, the man died from his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

KIRO 7 spoke to neighboring businesses that investigators saw hours after the fact. Derek O’Bryan of Table Top Village says the CID is a great place to be, but it’s heartbreaking to hear about more gun violence.

“It’s unfortunate. Especially for a store like us, because we really care about the kids,” O’Bryan said.

Several people off camera echoed the same sentiment to our crews on the ground. Some believe gun violence in Seattle is getting worse, but some, like O’Bryan, believe it will take a group effort to truly combat the problem.

“I don’t think you can take it away completely, right? But there are things we can do to make it safer and make things more accessible for people to come and feel safe going somewhere, right?” O’Bryan said.

The circumstances leading to the shooting are unknown. Detectives from the homicide unit are investigating what happened.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
